The Man-Child's Room
A few posts back I said we were going to start remodeling the downstairs bathroom, than car troubles happened and then a new car purchase so our bathroom funds dwindled quickly. My teenager decided he wanted a "new room" for his birthday and I totally could make that happen but it was a matter of working around all the crap he already had in his room. I briefly spoke of his room in this post and below is the before.
My son LOVES everything St. Louis Blues and Cardinals so that was the theme we were going with, but he wanted it to be more clean and simple. After some research (getting on pinterest) and a few sample paint spots, holding up different sports pictures and pieces to the wall and going back and forth about a hundred times he finally decided on the color caulk white and Clark & Kensington Heirloom China. I told him that all the wood in his room, aside from furniture, was going to be painted white so he had to decide where he wanted the blue painted and where he wanted the white. Left is what the walls were and the right is what he decided on.
The remodel of this room was funded through the sale of the bedroom set in the before picture. We purchased paint, new outlets, throw pillows, bed rails, supplies to make the curtains (another blog post), a few more picture frames to put future 4-H projects in and a storage bench. Otherwise everything in his room was pre-existing. The bed and dressers were the baby bed set we used for all three boys. It was to break down to a full bed once we no longer needed the baby bed however we didn't have the rails for it until now. The shelves have always been in Carter's room as a bookshelf and the end table is one of the set that we had in our living room. The decor pieces he had already had around his room in a random manner but we decided to dedicate one wall to Blues, one to Cardinals and one for his 4H projects. Any memorabilia items are currently shoved under the bed but will eventually be organized in storage bins under the bed.

and his favorite wall the St. Louis Blues wall, with the signed stick
his uncle gave him.
My son LOVES this room and I have found that he actually keeps it clean and makes his bed daily. Who knew a "new room" would make him want to keep his room clean. I should have completed this sooner.

Obviously the room is still a work in progress, like the tacky red lamp shade, or the under the bed storage, but all in all this room is coming together nicely. It has become my most favorite room in the house.
