The Cow in the Room

Taking time out of the remodel posts to talk about the time I painted a cow. I took three years of art class in high school and that was it, so I am very amature. I do however love creating my own works of art for my house whether it be a canvas painting or counter cross stitching our family picture.

Living in a house of boys (including our 5 male cats and 1 male dog, I am literally outnumbered) I have been instructed that I am allowed to decorate however I see fit EXCEPT I am not allowed to decorate in floral pictures (anymore). Living on the family farm it only seemed appropriate to paint pictures of farm animals. I had been seeing fun pictures of cows and thought to myself, "I could totally manage that."

January 2017 I purchased myself a canvas, drew out my cow and got to painting. It took me about three weekends before I finished him (Cow still remains nameless, I just know it's a boy).

He lived in our yellow kitchen for a bit before I found the perfect spot for him. Or should I say, when my husband got tired of looking at this teal blue floral picture over our stairs and took it down to replace it with said cow painting. It really was the perfect spot, but I won't tell him that.

Said perfect spot.
The story of the cow painting doesn't end there, last year I  entered it into the 2019 Monroe County Fair along with our homemade salsa's, pickles and photographs taken from vacations.

The cow won first place. There were so many other paintings and mine got first. I was shocked. But that isn't all. When I went to pick up my painting (and winnings) there was a note on my check, with a phone number on it. They were asking to purchase my cow. I had to decline the person however, after all this cow was painted as a gift to my boys and I just couldn't part with him.

Where the cow sits today.
