The History of the Fults Farmhouse

Well, the shortened version.

I was born and raised in the country, in Southern Illinois, until I was 19 when I moved to a small town not far from home and hated town living for the next 13 years. That is until I met my (now) husband, Tim, and he eventually moved me to his family farm... in a house built in the late 1800's and in his family for over the last 100 years (I believe we are at 112).

The house and property was originally purchased by my husbands Great-Great Grandparents and given as a wedding gift to his Great Grandparents. They raised a large family here, as well as chickens, hogs, sheep and maybe a few heads of cattle. They also farmed the ground around the house. After Tim's great Grandparents passed two of their sons (Tim's Great Uncles) lived in this house, making it a major bachelor pad. After the two Great Uncles passed my husband and his twin moved in, they lived here together from 2008 until August 2012, when we married and I moved in. I am the first woman to live in this house in over 60 years and when I first moved in the house definitely resembled that.

There was wallpaper in every single room, mural wallpaper, deer wallpaper, tractor wallpaper... it was literally everywhere. There was commercial plastic paneling in the bathrooms, wood paneling in the office with deer and ducks etched into it and deer  heads and stuffed ducks everywhere. Tim and I did minimal wall paper removal and painting before I moved in but it was to his standards, because he was living in the house. I was planning a wedding and the house was the last thing on my to-do list. After I was actually living in the house it took me about 4 years and 2 babies to figure out exactly what I wanted to do. It also takes a bit for my husband to accept change so I would spend about a year talking about the change I want to make, doing a lot of research on the DIY and finally take action. I started with the two little guys room and the master room and moved on from there.

Not a great picture but this was The Fults Farmhouse at Christmas 2019
Since I started remodeling in 2016 I have done a room, sometimes two, a year. I started this blog a little later than I wanted to but please join me in DIY's and remodels as we update The Fults Farmhouse. I will also share my before and afters of my previous projects.
